Sky Contract Win Secures Future Of Falkirk Contact Centre
24/06/2009

Staff at HEROtsc operation in Falkirk, who were set to face the axe at the end of next month, were officially informed today that a newly-won contract with media company Sky had saved all their jobs.

The HEROtsc employees had been facing an uncertain future since April when they were told that a previous client was moving the work done by them to another company in the Philippines. Since then management at HEROtsc, Scotland’s largest contact centre company, have been working flat out to win the new business that would keep their staff in employment.

Their Chief Executive Officer David Turner was understandably delighted to give the good news to their Falkirk staff today.

I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I was to pass on this news to staff today,” said Turner. “I can well imagine the stress and anxiety they have been going through in the past few weeks.

“This contract with Sky not only takes their employment worries away, it brings a new, dynamic customer onto the HEROtsc client list. “Providing a quality service to an industry leader of the size and prestige of Sky is an exciting challenge but one I know we will deliver.”

In a personal letter to each of his employees Turner praised the professionalism of his staff since the first news of the jobs threat in April. He said: “The manner in which you have continued to work so efficiently and diligently over the past few difficult weeks has been a credit to every one of you.”

Dave Rumble, Sky’s Sales Director added:

“We’re really pleased to be working with HEROtsc and look forward to developing a strong relationship. This new contract has been awarded in response to strong customer demand for all our products and will support our drive to make high definition TV accessible to even more households across the UK and Ireland.”

David Turner praised the Scottish Government, including the Enterprise Minister, Jim Mather MSP, whom he spoke to today, for their efforts to keep these jobs in Scotland.

Following his conversation with David Turner, Jim Mather said:
“This excellent news is a massive vote of confidence in the management and staff of HEROtsc, who had faced uncertainty over their jobs for several months.  This new contract will retain 300 jobs in Falkirk at a challenging time in the global economy.  I pay tribute to the unstinting effort of the management and staff and others, including Scottish Development International, whose determination to find new business have safeguarded these jobs.”

David Turner had praise, too, for the encouragement and support given by local politicians, in particular MSP Michael Matheson and MP Eric Joyce.

“Like me they never doubted the ability and dedication of the workforce here and that faith has been rewarded,” said Turner.

“This is great news for the staff and the HEROtsc site,” said Matheson.  “The Sky contract will provide the employees with job security whilst also ensuring the long-term future of HEROtsc in the area.

”HEROtsc are market leaders in their sector due to the professionalism and dedication of their staff.  I have no doubt the company will build on this new contract and continue to go from strength to strength”.

HEROtsc will be providing Sky with customer services and sales capabilities to serve their customers. All HEROtsc staff will receive the appropriate training to ensure they deliver the highest quality of services to their new client and their customers.
